How did you become attentive on the brand Simson?
A friend of mine has been working on Simson Swallows for years. After a ride with one of his Swallows, I immediately wanted to have one too.
What do you particularly like about Simson?
Because of the "simple construction" it is just a lot of fun to screw around. The shape is unique and if you consider that they are quite old, they are great treasures!

How did you get your Schwalbe?
I got hold of a barn find on the internet.
Does your moped have a name?
Her name is Merry. It came to me somehow immediately - quasi a flash of inspiration.
In which condition was Merry at the time of the acquisition?
To be honest, some of it was junk. I really only got to use the frame, the sheet metal parts, and the engine. I was lucky, the sheet metal parts didn't have any dents
What exactly did you change?
I completely rebuilt Merry. It was a lot of work! I really took my time as it was important to me to work carefully. I wanted the finish to be high quality. I was quickly sure about the colour choice. It should look elegant and typically Nordic. I always found a navy blue very beautiful and in combination with white ... just perfect!
Were there any difficulties during the renovation? Did you do the work alone?
Actually everything worked out fine. Only the engine had a little problem, because the gear adjustment didn't work. But I had great support from a friend. I wouldn't have been able to do it all on my own.
How much did the conversion cost?
It was quite a lot. Engine completely regenerated, new vape, frame sandblasted + powder-coated, new cables and screws etc.. - all in all about 2.500€.
What do you use your moped for?
Only when the weather is nice to cruise through the harbour of Hamburg and along the Alster.
What was your greatest or most extraordinary experience?
Up to now there have not been so many events. I had a great trip to the stair quarter of Blankenese.

Do you have any wishes, ideas, plans for the future concerning Simson?
If necessary I would buy a Simson Schwalbe again. I would just have to have more time.
