BK350 | EMW | BMW Facts & Backgrounds

In Zschopau, the engineers of the former DKW plant developed the BK 350 under the banner of the Industrieverband Fahrzeugbau (IFA). The motorcycle is powered by a two-stroke 350 ccm boxer engine, an extremely rare engine concept to this day. Many motorcycle fans were enthusiastic about the BK built from 1952. Since the MZ ES manufactured shortly afterwards in Zschopau was however easier to manufacture and with the AWO from Suhl still another motorcycle was on the market, the authorities thought to be able to do without the BK. In 1959 the production was stopped, today the BK 350 is extremely rare and accordingly in demand. The sidecar motorcycle still impresses today with its timeless elegance.

In Eisenach, BMW produced the R 35 in the 1930s and 40s, a very robust single-cylinder four-stroke engine with cardan drive and 14 hp. After the end of the war a large number of stored parts were found, only the frames were missing. Nevertheless, production restarted. After the Bayerische Motorenwerke in Thuringia had been expropriated, the model was still built until 1955 as EMW (Eisenacher Motorenwerke) with small modifications. In the ten years between 1945 and 1955, more than 80,000 BMW/EMW R35s rolled off the production line.
