How did you become aware of the Simson brand? What do you like in particular?

My first moped was a S50N, which my grandfather, along with two other Schwalben, had saved from the scrap. Since I made my AM driver's license at the age of 15 and I did not want to ride a plastic scooter, my grandpa and father revived the S50N for me. This was the start of my love for Simson.

How did you get your Schwalbe?

As mentioned, my grandpa rescued three Simson classics, one of which was sold to acquaintances over the years. After years of sitting around, I decided to revive it - without any knowledge of the engine or model.

The Schwalbe was extremely tinkered with. It is actually a KR51/2, but had the engine of the KR51/1 in it. The paint consisted of more than five layers and most of the components were missing. The Schwalbe was just enough to drive.

What did you change on the Schwalbe?

The look is due to the Opel Motoclub 500. The engine is from a S50 - rebuilt and sealed. The paint was completely removed, then the sheet metal was brushed and coated with matt clear lacquer. The handlebars are self-made - bent from tubes. In addition, a 63cc cylinder kit, an AOA3 exhaust and a 12V vape were installed. Additionally new rims, a new seat and much more.

Were there any difficulties with the build?

The engine of the S50 (M53), which I had saved from the scrap, had problems with the chain length and made trouble with the exhaust and fender. With the electrics I had to fight for days, because my knowledge in the electrical field was rather low and it was therefore quite complicated. A reason was certainly also that a vape ignition from a S50 was installed. So some changes were necessary.

I did a lot on my own, but my father always supported me with words and deeds.

How much did the conversion cost?

Exactly I can not say, but I estimate about 1,000 - 1,500 euros.

What do you use your moped for?

To bring a smile to the face of one or the other at meetings and on Sunday outings. It is not really suitable for everyday use.

What was your greatest / most extraordinary experience?

Experiencing the horror of some people about the red tires.

Do you participate in Simson events?

From time to time you can see me at smaller meetings. I would love to take my Schwalbe to the meeting in Suhl

Do you have wishes, ideas, plans for the future?

I had thought about making my Schwalbe suitable for everyday use and converting an accident vehicle purely for show and meeting. Probably it would become again a KR51/1 or KR51/2. Since I would rework everything from the frame to the sheet metal anyway, the condition would not matter.

Anything else you would like to share?

Have courage for projects that others think are impossible. What I would like to see above all is: look at other people's vehicles with respect, even if you don't like them. Appreciate the craftsmanship, the idea and passion of the screwdriver.

Due to a police check I was unfortunately forced to replace the red tires with whitewall tires. :( Thus, unfortunately, my concept was gone and I had to visually rebuild my Schwalbe again. You should really use bicycle tires only for bikes or pure show vehicles, everything else is too dangerous. The tires were worn out after 200km and no longer usable. Meanwhile, they give a Beautiful clock on my wall. :)
